Word Bird Supreme offers the weary hidden object gamer a refreshing relief from traipsing through haunted houses and graveyards with some good old fashioned word play. From the makers of Slingo Supreme, Word Bird Supreme provides hours of challenging word play, a competitive social aspect, as well as charming graphics for the word game enthusiast.  

One of the casualties of Hidden Object games dominating the casual space is word games – they are released few and far between. So, when a new one comes out, I always like to take a look.

Word Bird Supreme is from the maker of Slingo Supreme so this game is high quality. The board and the letters are large and clear. The music did not distract me, but a tip I have seen from other players is to just shut the music off to help with concentration.

A unique feature of this game is the Daily Challenge. A new board is presented daily and the goal is to beat your previous scores as well as the scores of other players on the leaderboard.

This provides a social competitiveness to Word Bird Supreme and really helps to increase the replay value significantly.

The gameplay involves collecting as many coins as you can. The more coins that you collect, the more turns you receive. Putting words together quickly provides a bonus and the longer the word, the more coins you get.

As you progress through Word Bird Supreme, you uncover power-ups. These provide you with bonus coins and special abilities. For instance, one power-up reveals the highest scoring word possible. The length of these words is often inspiring and humbling at the same time.

One interesting option in the settings is to use the "Unabridged Dictionary." An unabridged dictionary contains many more words than the abridged edition. If you want to give yourself the best chance at longer words, definitely select this option.

"Why would anyone choose to use the abridged version?" you may ask. Scrabble purists may appreciate the abridged version, which limits the words to more closely resemble Scrabble Tournament play.

While this is all-to-the-good, what is strange is that the dictionary used is not mentioned. Is the abridged dictionary more similar to a newspaper dictionary, which contains words at a high school level, or is it based off a collegiate reference? Is it a modified version of the Official Scrabble Players Dictionary (OPSD)? If you are going to provide an option to limit a dictionary, I would think you should specify which dictionary you are going to limit yourself to.

The storyline in Word Bird Supreme is thin-to-none, but it is clear that the raven is bad and the owl is good. The raven only shows up when bad things happen and the owl often scowls. I did not witness any black-on-brown bird violence in the game, but the way things were going, I would not be surprised.

I recommend Word Bird Supreme if you are looking for a fresh, challenging word game to play in between your Hidden Object Adventures.
