Hey gamers! I did it! I finished every single level in the game Toki Tori. That includes normal, hard, and bonus levels. Whew!
If you read my previous review about Toki Tori, then you already know about this game and my secret (not so much anymore) addiction to platformer-type games. However, can we really call this a platformer? I don’t think so. A regular platformer has you getting from point A to point B while dodging bad guys, jumping on them, collecting coins, etc. Toki Tori is more of a puzzle game disguised as a platformer.
Toki Tori, the adorable yellow chick, is out to make the biggest omelet ever. He (I'm assuming he’s a boy) has to complete each level by collecting eggs. Sound easy? It's not. You have eight different abilities you can use throughout the game. These are generally limited, but sometimes you get lucky, and a skill is unlimited for a certain level.
Since you often go back and forth across the same path, you have to think ahead so you don't block your path or run into bad guys - who vary from porcupines, to ghosts, to glowing slugs, and puffer fish. This game relies more on your brain than your reflexes, most of the time. Hence, this is a puzzle game!
I cannot emphasize enough that this is a challenging game. Do not let the cute graphics fool you! There are a total of 81 levels to complete. Each level gets increasingly harder as you go along. There are four worlds. Forest Falls, Creepy Castle, followed by Slimy Sewers, and then my favorite, Bubble Barrage. I love underwater themes, which is why I probably adore the Turtle Odyssey series.
Each world has a different number of levels under normal, hard, and bonus. The game essentially ends when you have completed all the normal levels, then you can go back and play the hard and bonus for more, and sometimes extremely frustrating, fun. Is there such a thing as frustrating fun?
Included in this walkthrough is a breakdown of the abilities and amount thereof for each level and a video solution for all 81 levels in the game! Now, I wonder if anyone in the house is hungry for an omelet?
