Mondays… I hate Mondays… not just because it’s back to class and homework and all that… no. I have a real reason to hate Mondays… this is the day the girls get together and watch a chick flick in the living room. Every week, it’s the same old thing… chick breaks up with boy, chick finds new meaning in life, chick finds a better boy, happily ever after blah blah blah. I can’t take it anymore! Morgan and her roommate come over and sit with Lucy and Anne and bawl all over the couch over and over again… it’s ridiculous.
Sigh… anyhow… you know what that means. I’m not going out there under any circumstances so I might as well settle in and play a game or two because they are going to be there all night. I ordered a pizza, I got my mountain dew ready and I thought before I jumped into some hard core gaming, I would see about this sneak peek of the game Mountain Crime: Requital from Alawar. I admit it, I love things that blow up and fast cars, but I also have a special place in my heart for a good mystery… bet you didn’t know that about me… I’m a big Sherlock Holmes fan so this new upcoming game seemed like it could be interesting.

It begins on a dark and rainy night of course… you are Philip White, (finally a dude!), a doctor, and you get a phone call in the middle of the night that your patient, Mr. Grey has had a heart attack and needs your immediate attention. You were scheduled to go tomorrow for the grand opening of the White Wolf Hotel, but as a good doctor, you get in your car in the middle of the night and drive to the hotel to see your patient.

Things get dicey real fast though when the bridge is washed out to the hotel, and you’re stuck in a seemingly unstaffed hotel with several other suspicious characters who were all mysteriously invited to the grand opening as well… any of this starting to feel familiar? Well, if it’s not… it should… it’s the classic setup to Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None… and shut up Morgan, I do actually read.

You soon find out that not everything is as it seems, especially when the bodies start appearing, and it’s up to you to figure out what the heck is going on! You can trust no one! Everyone is suspect and no one seems to know where the host and your patient Mr. Grey is!

As far as the gameplay on this one, it’s pretty good. Great graphics and details. The hidden object parts were pretty unique too. Instead of finding things on a list, you had to find pieces of a certain object in order to solve an objective… for example, you had to get someone a cup of tea so you go in a room, click on the hidden object area, and you have to find the pieces of the tea set, the cup, the saucer, the sugar, etc. I thought that was a pretty fresh take on something that we’ve all know and are used to.
Anyhow, overall, it was a pretty good game even for me, and you’re not going to want to miss trying this one when it comes out later this week. Now… if you’ll excuse me, I need to put my headphones back on to drown out the sounds of bawling girls on the couch.
