Well, that’s it. My last final was today. I’m all done. Graduation is in about 2 weeks, and I have nothing really on the agenda but to try to figure out what to do with the rest of my life… or NOT! No, I fully plan on using the hands-over-my-ears method of coping, and indulge in some great games for the next few days. La la la I can’t hear you mom! No, I don’t have a job yet. No, I haven’t decided if I’m going to grad school!
Anyhow, with summer fast approaching now, I decide to check out the game Campgrounds, since it’s been awhile since I’ve played a resource management game, and I’m a big fan of camping! And I am happy to report that this charming little game did not disappoint.

Anyhow, with summer fast approaching now, I decide to check out the game Campgrounds, since it’s been awhile since I’ve played a resource management game, and I’m a big fan of camping! And I am happy to report that this charming little game did not disappoint.
You begin the game in medias res, or for you non-English majors, in the middle of the action. Our leading lady is Addie, who watches in dismay as her boss bulldozes a giant tree right in front of her eyes. As you bend down to attempt to save a flower from the carnage, he slaps it out of your hand and stomps it like a bug.
Naturally, Addie is furious, quits her job right then and there, and decides to start her own campground business. (I’m ignoring the obvious questions like where did she get the money to buy the land. Let’s just say she found a treasure chest full of gold somewhere and is using that, ok?)
Anyhow, as you begin to play the game, just like in most of these types of resource management games, you have workers who will do all your dirty work, like build tents, factories, and greenhouses. You have two point systems. One for money and one for eco-boosts. Basically, the money comes from renting the tents and cabins out daily. The eco-boosts come from planting trees and having animals. The game sometimes lets you choose between money and the environment. Growing up on a farm, naturally I went green as much as I could!

For each level, you have certain tasks you have to achieve, such as build 5 tents with three stars and have 40 eco points. If you’re a fan of resource management games, you’ll have no trouble jumping into this one. If you haven’t played that many, they have a really well-done tutorial that introduces you to new things as you encounter them.
The graphics were cute and fun, nothing to write home about, but typical of these types of games. Overall, Campgrounds was a very addicting game that, to me, was almost a Farmville version of a resource management game. I know it was camping, not farming, but you were kind of doing the same things. Building structures, growing seeds, planting gardens… definitely worth taking a look at if you like the farming type games.
Anyhow, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go back into my own reality where I don’t have to figure out what I’m doing with my life… here’s a video of the Campgrounds gameplay for you to check out.
