The Elder Scrolls Online Story

In 2E 578, four years ago, a massive explosion of arcane energy originating from the Imperial City detonated powerful aftershocks that rippled across Nirn, and created devastating magical disturbances.

Mages died or were lost to madness. The Daedra, supernatural horrors from the plane of Oblivion, poured out into the world, and the constellation of the Serpent loomed in the night, so large, it seemed to swallow the sky.

Winters grew harsh and frigid. Crops withered into dust. And armies of dark spirits and revenants manifested throughout the land.

In this time of strife, the Daedric Prince, Molag Bal, put his grand scheme into motion, striking with deadly precision. His vortexes of evil magic chip away at the barriers between Nirn and Oblivion, draining their defenses and attempting to merge the two worlds into one dark and hellish landscape.

As his power grows, three alliances form among the races of Tamriel, each vying for control of the Imperial City in an all out war. The High Elves, the Wood Elves, and the Khajiit stand together as one under The Aldmeri Dominion. The Breton, the Redguards, and the Orcs form The Daggerfall Covenant, and The Nords, the Dark Elves, and the Argonians form the uneasy Ebonheart Pact.

Each army has its own strengths and weaknesses. Each force has its own agenda. As the drums of war beat ever louder, you'll be forced to take your place amongst the vying alliances and choose where your loyalties lie.
