While preparing for my travels this holiday season, I decided to fly through Big City Adventure: Paris. Granted my travel plans aren’t as grand compared to a trip to Paris, but I was glad I dove into this game before my holiday break. My time was rewarded with an engaging hidden object game, complete with its own achievement and rewards system. Big City Adventure: Paris is a great looking and challenging game that will keep you glued to your screen.
Like other games in the Big City Adventure series, Big City Adventure: Paris took me on an escapade through the city of choice. The story is told through the eyes of a family, and it seems like this family is quite into traveling. These people are awesome for being able to go and see so many different places, but I have no idea how they can afford it. Traveling home to visit family over Christmas and New Year already puts a huge dent in my wallet.
From cafes to famous attractions around Paris, this family does it all. Each new location is introduced through a short postcard that recounts their experiences there. I didn’t actually read every single one, but I applauded the creativity in trying to make this part of the game as fresh as possible.
Big City Adventure: Paris also impressed me in the design and sound department. I was blown away by the amount of details they were able to cram into each scene.
Trying to find objects in each new location was very challenging due to this huge amount of detail, but I appreciated the realism depicted in the different parts of the city and enjoyed each scene immensely.
Adding to the realism was something that I had missed in the games I have played so far: good complementary sound. The background music was surprisingly pleasant, but what put it over the top for me was being graced with lifelike sounds that fit the locale.
If I was in a café, there would be indistinct sounds of people chatting along with the clanging of cups and silverware. If I was on a busy intersection, I could hear cars driving by honking their horns or people walking along the sidewalks. This was a very welcome piece to Big City Adventure: Paris and helped elevate my experience while playing the game.
My overall experience playing Big City Adventure: Paris did not disappoint. The game is downright fun and challenging with small features that keep you hooked. The achievement system was pretty standard: complete a specific challenge in order to unlock the achievement. What presented the biggest challenge, however, were the hidden object scenes of Big City Adventure: Paris.
Objects were blended so well into the environments, which was only enhanced by the graphical detail of each location. I was given a few hint coins at the beginning of each level in case I needed help finding an object, which counted toward the final score if unused.
In games that provide you with aides to complete the level, it’s generally my nature to horde them until the end, but a few objects were so obscure that to find them I had to use a hint about every other level! I was dumfounded when it finally revealed the approximate location. Did I really just have to use a hint? Oui!
The mini games between levels were also a nice addition.
Solving a mini game puzzle would reveal the next destination in the city. This really mixed up the pace well enough to create an overall enjoyable experience.
Big City Adventure: Paris had the right combination of gaming elements that would keep me coming back for more. There was never a dull moment from the beginning of this adventure, so pack your bags and come get a small taste of Paris!
